“A Murder of Crows” Out Now!

I’m delighted to announce the publication of my latest short story, “A Murder Of Crows” which is in To Appalachia With Love, a collection of short story anthologies where the entire ‘purchase price’ is a donation to local Western North Carolina charities. That’s right, submit proof of a $10 donation to food banks, animal rescues and more, and you get your choice of a short story anthology:

    • Romance

    • Fantasy

    • Sci Fi/Fantasy

    • Contemporary

    • LBGTQIA+

The background is a hazy, foggy gray day over rolling pine-covered hills disappearing into mountains. There are fancy graphics at each corner. The center features e-reader with a book cover that is very similar to the background—a round graphic that has NC Indies in fancy font and North Carolina Indie Authors in tiny font. Below that in dark print is the title To Appalachia With Love: Contemporary Anthology. The bottom text is white and says A charity anthology for Western North Carolina.

If you donate $50 or more (more is always great!) you get the entire omnibus! That’s right, all five anthologies in one! All the details are on the website!

For “A Murder of Crows,” I really channeled some rage into how Veronica defends and protects what’s important to her and how her community–yes, the crows–repay her kindness. That’s the sort of energy we need going forward. It’s not a soft and pretty story, but sometimes violence is the answer.

Under my editing business, Sarah STETS, I edited the LBGTIQIA+ antho as well as parts of the Romance and Contemporary anthologies and let me tell you, there are so many amazing stories in these collections! You will not be disappointed!

So far, To Appalachia With Love has raised almost $5,000 for Hurricane Helene relief but with Giving Tuesday coming up, I think we can all make a bigger impact. Just a $10 dollar donation gets you a bunch of stories in your preferred genre–and don’t forget! E-books make fun stocking stuffers! Enjoy!

This year, I subbed a book to about 100 agents and editors and got a lot of great feedback, a lot of requests, and a whole bunch of form rejections. I had three short stories make it to the final round before being rejected and I don’t even know how many times I subbed stories, but you can be sure it was a lot! 2024 was very much a year of never giving up, never surrendering and I hope we can all carry that energy forward into 2025

Thanks for reading! Here’s to more good news in 2025!
Best,

Sally
