So, I sold a short story this year and it’s out now–in PRINT! Yes! I’m super excited to have “Welcome To Your New Home” as the first story in Tales of Sley House House 2023! It’s a creepy story about a mom and her daughter after they’ve moved into a–spoiler alert–new house. It doesn’t go…well, to say the least.
This story is based on a real house I toured once when we were considering moving. There really was a nice old house for sale with a surprisingly roomy kitchen and 3 bedrooms upstairs and a big backyard and it really did have an absolutely wrong little room in the basement. I opened that door, felt the wrongness, and we left. Immediately. We didn’t even go upstairs to leave–we went out the basement door. My partner has learned not to question my “feelings” on this sort of thing anymore. Almost fifteen years later, that house and that little room still sticks in my memory, so I wrote a story about it.
